Reviews From Buyers
Note: This is a mini rant against either Walmart or Monoprice (I'm still not sure which one I'm dealing with). The product is a great printer when it works, but personal experience and the experience of many people around the world show that it is not reliable in the long run and can have power supply issues or even burn/melt the connectors on the main board. I purchased this back in June, 2016. It experienced a power supply failure near the end of January 2017. Luckily, it was under warranty. Unluckily, I was told on January 26 the process could not begin until they had more in stock which would not be until February 3 (despite being listed as in stock on the Walmart.com website). The website still listed them in stock on January 30 so I asked to begin the RMA process then, but was told stock was too low to begin the process and to contact them on February 3. Then, after contacting the seller again on February 3, I was told they had somehow gone back in stock earlier and had sold out again. I was told I could not start the replacement process until February 24 when they came back in stock. I had suggested that I was willing to pay the difference to get the Maker Select Plus (which does not seem to have the burned/melted connector issue) instead, but that is apparently not an option. The unfortunate part about buying through Walmart is that you don't get direct access to Monoprice support. Instead, you have to go through a single email address and that option appears to be slower and less effective than the online chat I had with Monoprice directly. They were helpful until I mentioned that I bought it through Walmart and then they said they couldn't actually help getting a replacement. So now I have to wait. And the other fun thing is that I can't send them the printer right now. Instead, I have to wait until they're back in stock, start the RMA process and send them my printer, wait until they receive it, and only then will they send the replacement. If I had it to do over again I would purchase this directly through Monoprice. And to be clear, when this printer is working it is a heck of a lot of fun. It takes some tweaking and fiddling, but once you get it going its great. Aside from the whole fire hazard thing.
